A vast expanse of land does separate
Your beauty from my tired, longing eyes.
This obstacle, from twisted hands of Fate,
Is one that I do doubtlessly despise.
Such distance can confuse a fickle heart
And weaken its resistance to new charms,
For many are the couples torn apart
By gentle force from other women's arms.
My heart, though, pulses wildly in my chest,
Stronger for the love that you return.
The distant heart that knows and loves it best
Remains the only one for which I yearn.
Though isolated from your close embrace,
No other love could ever take your place.
