Whoo boy. Gengar is my biggest bead sprite yet. It took up at LEAST 1000 black beads... looks like I'll need to place another order soon.

Perler (or Hama) beads. You usually see them in craft stores or sets for little kids. You just pick your colors, arrange the beads on a pegboard, and then iron them to make them stick together. You can buy them in bulk from various sources. All you really have to do for designs is find sprite sheets online or make your own (as I see you do). One bead per pixel.

There's a whole Internet community for it. I frequent this forum myself as VorpalDormouse.
